Description: First edition with a chapter on perspective by A Macdonald (School of Art, Oxford). Tyrwhitt was a disciple of Ruskin and this book was frequently given as a prize by the Department of Science and Art at South Kensington (which this was as it has the Department's Reward stamp embossed on the title page) and is a good example of the concerns of art education at the time. Some interesting colour and b&w illustrations plus 2 original albumen prints, an early example of the use of photography in art. Brown leather embossed boards, attractive arts and crafts type panels, with gilt lettering and VR (Queen Victoria) insignia on the front. (This copy the boards are slightly rubbed but the contents are fine)
